For Sameer, a 26-year-old promising young man from Khanna, Punjab, December 14 was meant to be a special day in his life. But his family members trying to wish him over phone were left saddened.
It was a similar case with Gagandeep Singh, 24, another youth from the Ghal Kala village in Moga district. His father Gurmukh Singh, who had raised a loan of Rs five lakh to send him to Georgia four months ago, is heart-broken. Gagandeep has been the sole breadwinner for an aging family, including his grandfather.

Ravinder’s father Amrik Singh is bed-ridden, in complete shock and dismay.
These are some of the nine families of Punjab whose kin were among the 11 Indians who died at a Georgia restaurant, reportedly due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Gurmukh Singh,50, father of Gagandeep Singh is finding it hard to come to terms with unimaginable grief in the family. He had, earlier, lost his younger son and later his wife too. Now, the poor landless farmer is left struggling with profound sorrow and without anyone to care for him.

Sandeep Singh had taken a loan of Rs 6 lakh to head to Georgia. His father Balwant Singh says he can’t imagine how destiny has hit home so hard. Most of the families are making appeals to the government to get the bodies back for performing their last rites back home in Punjab.
Ravinder Kala, a native of Kot Ramdas near Jalandhar, had been working abroad for the past seven years. He could not return all these years and his only contact with wife and kids had been through video calls. His family remembers him as a very hard working son who was struggling to make ends meet.
Ravinder had initially worked in Dubai for four years and shifted to Georgia in 202. He is survived by his wife Kanchan, two daughters and a son.
